biography

  • A native South Floridian, Phillip Lloyd Hamilton has committed nearly two decades to empowering students to realize their potential through higher education. His passions focus more specifically on advancing academic outcomes for students from historically under-represented and hidden populations and on building networks that allow organizations to leverage their human capital to reinforce their impact on the communities they serve.

    Phillip currently serves as Assistant Vice President of Student Belonging & Support within the Division of Academic & Student Affairs at Florida International University (FIU). In addition to leading the Office of Student Access & Success, Centers for Student Engagement, and the Office of Veteran & Military Affairs, Phillip heads The Education Effect university-assisted community school coalition. Prior to this role, Phillip served in various administrative capacities throughout FIU, including in Human Resources, Academic Affairs, and the Office of the President. He has also served as a Faculty Fellow in the FIU Honors College since 2018 and is a member of the Order of the Torch, FIU’s leadership honorary.

    As long-time champion for the abilities of persons with various intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities, Phillip is a former officer of the City of Doral’s Special Needs Advisory Board and currently serves as chairman on the Board of Directors for Charlotte-based non-profit The Ability Experience – the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He is an engaged member of Leadership Florida and serves on the Impact Council for United Way Miami. Phillip is a devoted two-time Panther, having earned his Bachelor of Public Administration and Master of Science in Higher Education Administration degrees from FIU.
